The user-contributed software (for instance the user scripts and the gadgets in the MediaWiki namespace) are by default contributed under [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_Creative_Commons_Attribution-ShareAlike_3.0_Unported_License CC-BY-SA]. This is due to [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Scripts#License Wikidata having that same license for its software] and the expectation that contributors will cut and paste freely from Wikipedia and Wikidata.

 

Wikipedia and Wikidata encourage contributors to double license under the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License GPL], and we do the same here.
