With bluetooth you can keep track of who has been within radio range. Range is not the same as distance. Range is determined by the transmitting power, the reception sensitivity, the distance (yes) and the environment (walls, obstacles, reflectors, etc.). Out of range you can deduce the distance, but this is not very accurate.
